I’ve tried over a dozen budgeting apps on my iPhone. Here are my favorites.
Monarch Money
I’ve used Monarch Money on my iPhone for over a year. Somehow the folks at Monarch have figured out how to pack a ton of features into a smartphone app that is very easy to use. This probably explains why it has a 4.9 rating after 80,000 reviews in the App Store.
Quicken Simplifi
I find Quicken Simplifi to be extremely easy to use on my phone. And I like how it integrates information about my investment portfolio in the dashboard.
Origin
Origin is the newest app on this list. It stands out by integrating AI into just about every aspect of the app. I’ve been testing the app since it launched, and I find it to be every bit as solid as any other app on this list.
Rocket Money
With nearly 300,000 reviews on the App Store, users have put Rocket Money to the test. While it doesn’t score as high as some other options here, a 4.5 is still respectable. Frankly, I find it just as intuitive and easy to use as the other options. It’s also is the only option, apart from Empower below, that has a free tier that is packed with features.
Empower
Empower is the only option today that is TOTALLY free. It’s also the absolutely best option here if tracking your retirement and other investment accounts is a priority for you.
Important: When you signup for Empower, you must (1) enter and verify your phone number, and (2) connect at least one account to the app. Frankly, if you use budgeting or investment tracking app, it makes sense to connect all your accounts.
App Store Rating: 4.8 (346k reviews)
Platforms: Apple iOS, Android or Web
Cost: Free
Best for: Tracking spending, net worth and investments
